It is also used to treat symptoms of irritability, aggression, temper, mood swings and tantrums. Aripiprazole should be taken once per day. The normal starting dose for abilify is 10gm to 15gm per day. However, the dose may be increased after some time to achieve best results. Abilify is available as: 1. tablets Tablets are packed into the following doses 2 mg , 5 mg, 10 mg, 15 mg, 20 mg and 30 mg. 2. orally disintegrating tablets They are packed into the following doses 10 mg and 15 mg. 3. oral solution The dose is packed in 1 mg per mL injection and 7.5 mg per mL injection. You should take the missed dose immediately after remembering. However, do not take the dose if it’s almost time to take the next dose. This will be overdosing. Do not try to compensate the missed dose by taking an extra one. Store the drug in a cool and dry place. Keep it out of reach from small children. Do not take the medicine longer than 6 weeks unless your doctor tells you so. Abilify can be taken with or without food. The medicine comes with a dosing spoon. Always use the dosing spoon to take the medicine as prescribed. If you do not have the spoon, ask your doctor for one. For patients taking the orally disintegrated tablet, it is important to note the following; Always store the medicine in its blister pack until you are ready to take it. Always use dry hands when removing the tablet in its pack. place it in your mouth immediately after opening it. Do not swallow the medicine as a whole but allow it to dissolve in your mouth. You may drink liquid to help you when swallowing the dissolved tablet. If you have any questions, ask your doctor or pharmacist. Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily. The dosage is based on your medical condition, response to treatment, age, and other medications you may be taking. Be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist about all the products you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products). To reduce your risk of side effects, your doctor may direct you to start this medication at a low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully. The manufacturer directs to swallow this medication whole. However, many similar drugs (immediate-release tablets) can be split/crushed. Follow your doctor’s direction on how to take this medication. If you are using the liquid form of this medication, carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/cup. Do not use a household spoon because you may not get the correct dose. Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often or for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects will increase. It may take several weeks before you get the full benefit of this drug. Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day. It is important to continue taking this medication even if you feel well. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor. Some conditions may become worse when this drug is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased. Tell your doctor if your condition does not improve or if it worsens.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Side Effects” tab_id=”1500389412853-d02a327a-b319″][vc_column_text]Drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation, weight gain, or trouble urinating may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor or pharmacist promptly. To reduce the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water, or use a saliva substitute. To prevent constipation, maintain a diet adequate in fiber, drink plenty of water, and exercise. If you become constipated while using this drug, consult your pharmacist for help in selecting a laxative. Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if any of these rare but serious side effects occur: easy bruising/bleeding, persistent heartburn, shaking, mask-like facial expressions, muscle spasms, severe stomach/abdominal pain, decreased sexual ability/desire, enlarged/painful breasts. Get medical help right away if you have any very serious side effects, including: black stools, vomit that looks like coffee grounds, severe dizziness, fainting, seizures, eye pain/swelling/redness, vision changes (such as seeing rainbows around lights at night). This medication may rarely cause a very serious condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). Get medical help right away if you have any of the following symptoms: fever, muscle stiffness, severe confusion, sweating, fast/irregular heartbeat. A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of possible side effects.
